This image of St. Mary’s Church highlights the great church buildings Abergavenny has to offer. This church was founded towards the end of the 11th century, but has of course undergone much rebuilding and restoration since then – the most significant of which came in the 19th century.

The church stands as a reminder of Abergavenny’s impressive historical significance and continued evolution. It’s clear that the development of the town has continued since the image was taken when you look at Google Streetview of a similar view:

Obviously the car park has been built, but so have the church’s other 2 buildings: the Priory Centre and the Tithe Barn. To find out more about St. Mary’s Church, click here.

The back of the postcard is relatively sparse:

It reads:

Just a card to you, x

Sent with love from up hear [sic]from Mrs Jones.
