Keep Abergavenny Tidy are asking you to help spruce up our lovely town in a community litter pick on Saturday, September 14th ready for the town’s famous food festival the following week.
Volunteers will be targeting four hot-spots – the Mill Street area; Chapel Road; the bridge on Old Ross Road; and Old Hereford Road around Ysguborwen and the Skatepark. Each session is between 10.00am and 12 noon.
New volunteers should sign up at the Keep Abergavenny Tidy (KAT) stall in the town centre at Red Square during that morning. Volunteers for Mill Street can meet at the stall. Litter pickers for the other areas meet on site. For more info about section leaders please contact KAT. If you do have a litter picking kit please bring it along. Otherwise kits will be on loan, but please contact KAT beforehand so numbers can be gauged.
KAT coordinator Helen Trevor Davies said, “There has been a fantastic response since KAT was relaunched in March. A number of groups and individuals have made such a positive difference. So far, at least 184 bags of litter have been cleared.
“We would like to thank everyone from groups such as Merched Y Wawr (the Welsh speaking WI group), Llantilio Pertholey WI, and the Cantref Crusaders. Then there have been a number of people clearing up eyesores they have spotted such as Una around the Blorenge, Jess and many others in group or individual efforts. They are all doing such a tremendous job.”
Monmouthshire County Council has supplied KAT with 18 new hi-vis adult jackets and six children’s jackets and a £70 grant has been awarded by Abergavenny Town Council for printing costs for them.
In addition, the KAT are developing a programme on preventative and educational strategies, as encouraged by Keep Wales Tidy.
