Monmouthshire Safe Places Scheme launches in Abergavenny Town Centre

Gwent Police are now supporting the Monmouthshire Safe Places scheme which has been launched in Abergavenny town centre.

The scheme, a project led by Monmouthshire People First and funded by the PCC’s Partnership Fund aims to make disabled people feel safer whilst out and about by providing places across Monmouthshire where people who may be feeling vulnerable can go to access help.

Over 100 shops and community-based venues have signed up to the scheme which means that staff working there are able to assist should anyone lose their belongings, feel unwell, is lost, feels anxious or has experienced a hate crime.

People using the scheme are given a key fob, wristband or badge which also includes contact numbers for the local police, a nominated contact and a local taxi service.

Participating venues display a Safe Places sticker in the window of their premises so people know where to go. For more information about Safe Places and details on signing up, you can contact CSO Ruth Moyse based at Abergavenny Police Station.
