The Borough Theatre is very pleased to announce the Spring 2019 Season and the appointment of David Baxter as the new Theatre Manager. David joined the team in November following his role as Artistic Director at Arts Active in Cardiff.

David said “I’ve been bowled over by the affection, support and enthusiasm for this lovely theatre since I started in November and I couldn’t be more excited to be leading it into what I believe will be a prosperous and exciting future after what has been some challenging times for the venue”.

There’s a wealth of music this Spring season, including a fine classical series starting with a piano recital by one of Britain’s most distinguished pianists Llyr Williams, with an evening of Chopin, Greig, Faure and Liszt. The second recital is by the award-winning, popular Ella Rundle (cello) and John Paul Elkin (piano) as they present an evening of Schumann, Mendelssohn, Chopin and Brahms and finally the A4 Brass Quartet complete the line-up with their programme of Rossini, Strauss, Debussy, Bruckner and Bramwell Tovey.

Other music events include two sell-out shows with Max Boyce, there’s limited availability for The Best of WHAM!, the new date for the brilliant and quirky Temperance Seven and  the award-winning singer/songwriter Ross Wilson fuses folk, jazz, soul and pop which has become the hallmark of the Blue Rose Code sound.

There’s some wonderful theatre including Vamos Theatre’s A Brave Face, a wordless, full mask engaging piece that is set in Afghanistan in 2009. Peeling, an epic post-modern production of The Trojan Women performed by Taking Flight and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru return with a double bill Merched Caerdydd / Nos Sadwrn o Hyd.

Family audiences can once again enjoy the thrills of the top rope flying, body slamming superstars of Welsh Wrestling.

As always, local community groups present a wealth of productions.

Abergavenny Theatre Group present Schiller’s Mary Stuart .  The Abergavenny Pantomime Company present Treasure Island  during February half-term. There will be a St David’s Day Concert with local performers, Concept Players are performing the musical My Fair Lady and Theatre Adhoc celebrate all things Dibley in The Vicar of Dibley.

Tickets are now on sale from the theatre’s Box Office on 01873 850805 or can be booked online at www.boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk
