What’s next for our area? Have your say!

We are naturally proud of where we live as it is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, though there is still a lot we can do. All of us have views on what we would like to improve and yours is important too. Team Abergavenny, other community groups, and many volunteers have been working with Abergavenny Town Council and some of the local Community Councils over the last 6 months to pull together both new ideas and items from previous plans. The views of the community are also needed to help form a new plan that can be shared with the Councils, and other potential providers of funds, in a way that will lead to positive, useful improvements.

“We really want to hear the views of as many local people and community groups as possible on what is being suggested” said Alan Michie, chair of Team Abergavenny. A community consultation meeting is being held on the 5 th December to discuss these ideas and the potential priorities among them. At this stage everything is still open to debate and if you think important initiatives have been under-rated and less important ones taken their place, this is your chance to say so. Representatives of your elected Councillors and Team Abergavenny, together with other volunteers, will be at the meeting.

It is easy, perhaps, to be cynical. Plans in the past, with the best intent and a lot of hard work, have not all been implemented. We will not be able to do all we would like and it will be a challenge to get enough funding from the Welsh Government and Monmouthshire County Council. However, there are other providers of funds and no shortage of ambition and ideas. The practicality of what can and cannot be done, for all our benefit, has to be a key consideration.

If you are interested in finding out more and helping to set the priorities for this area, why not come along to the open day in the Methodist Hall, Castle Street on Monday 5 th December. There will be a presentation and discussion between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm, and a repeated session between 7.00 and 9.00pm for those who work during the day or prefer the evening. Between these sessions, you can also drop in for an informal chat.
