Successful Launch for the Abergavenny Rhino’s Athletics Club

On the back of the successful “Abergavenny Rhinos Junior Football Club” brand and on behalf of the “Team Abergavenny” five year plan and the Government direction for increasing participation in recreation, the “Abergavenny Rhinos Athletic Club” was launched in Bailey Park on 23rd May.

We are grateful to the Petanque and Bowls Club for their kind agreement to co-locate in the Pavilion with its kitchen, changing rooms and toilet and the “Friends of Bailey Park” for their support. We would also like to thank Alan Michie, Peter Johns and Arthur Williams from Team Abergavenny for opening doors and providing PR for our progress to this point.

Next Steps:
We have put in a request to MCC for a temporary resurface of the netball court and a feed of the existing floodlights to enable us to continue during the winter months.
We are very encouraged by parent comments and the take up of the Governments “mile a day” initiative in primary schools which is proving a great success and will result in a step function increase in demand.
Once established, we hope to encourage walking and running groups to set up in the park as a meeting and warm up point with the availability of refreshment and toilet facilities. We would also like to encourage Netball and facilitate Volley ball, Hand ball and other activities that support activities in a social context.
We are keen to hear from a student of sport science to help with our plans for “long term player development” for elite performance.

Please see us on Facebook “Abergavenny Rhinos Athletic Club”. The current age group is 6 to 12 and we meet on Tuesday evenings by the Pavilion at 6.00.
Dream big – Work hard.
