Abergavenny and Holy Mountain Postcard – 1913

This postcard was sent in 1913. It obviously provides a stark contrast with the town as it is now, and gives us an interesting look at the past. It also shows ‘Holy Mountain’, which we now of course know as the Skirrid.

Unfortunately, the text on the back is somewhat smudged, but given that it’s 103 years old, it’s in a lot better condition than I’d have expected!

The section I can read says:

Dear Mrs Underwood,

I expect you think it strange I never came down. But I came home on Sat. for my holidays as I should have come down to see you last week. But I will come down […]
