Food, Wales and Brexit
22nd March 2017 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
‘FOOD, WALES & BREXIT’: 7.30pm – 9.00pm
Abergavenny Community Centre, Park Street, Abergavenny
Talks by Pamela Mason and Catherine Fookes about the impact of Brexit on our already
broken food system, followed by a discussion. Is there an opportunity to build a better future?
Pamela Mason is a public health nutritionist with a MSC in Food Policy from City
University in London. She has recently co-authored a book on sustainable diets
and food systems with Prof. Tim Lang. Pam is a member of the Just Food group
and is keen on contributing to Abergavenny and Monmouthshire having a healthier,
more enviromentally friendly, socially just food system.
Catherine Fookes has worked as a Food Campaigner at ActionAid, the Soil
Association and Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming. At Sustain, she
was Co-ordinator of the Organic Targets Bill Campaign, a Parliamentary campaign,
leading to an Action Plan and greater support for organic farmers and recognition
from Government that organic farming provides more jobs, is better for the
environment and better for animal welfare.
Currently she is the Campaign Manager for the Organic Trade Board and has raised
the funding for three organic promotion campaigns, the latest in December 2016
when the EU confirmed funding of 10.4 million Euros to promote organic food and
drink in the UK and Denmark.

Community Kitchen at Holy Trinity Church Hall
25th March 2017 @ 7:00 pm
“Our next Community will be on Sat Mar 25th at 7 for 7-30pm at Holy Trinity Church Hall.
We will be having a dish with puy lentils, basil & balsamic vinegar with seasonal vegetables, rice & salad. This will be followed with apple crumble.
We’ll be raising money to meet the costs of an event to be held during the summer at the Community centre to celebrate our local community. At the Canteen we’ll be seeking your views on how this might look like and we are hoping to have a speaker on the topic of Wales and Diversity.
Please book early to avoid disappointment as places are limited. (I shall be away from Mar 9th to 20th so do not be concerned if your booking is not acknowledged during that time). When booking please let me know if you have any allergies/dietary needs and if you’d like to help with chopping vegetables and/or setting up the room. We begin the preparations at 3pm.”
